How do you begin blogging about something as mundane as your own life? And why does the idea even occur to you? If we're being honest, no one truly cares about your trials and joys, the ups and the downs. And maybe it would be better if you kept them to yourself, saved yourself from the pity or scorn of outsiders who don't know you and can't know the context of your life. But perhaps that is the allure of a blog - the simultaneous combination of anonymity and publicity that you achieve as a blogger. A journal is almost too private, too isolated from the rest of the world. But anything bigger, louder and brighter than a blog just screams your need for attention - and who wants to associate with someone like that?
No, a blog seems to be the best way to do it. Because - let's face it - we would all like to think that our daily lives might be of some interest to the average bystander. Even if we don't battle demons to save the world, or solve gruesome crimes, or lead social lives worthy of any soap opera.
So this is about me. I'm acknowledging it up front. You can take it or leave it, and I won't know either way (again, the beauty of a blog). I'm not particularly interesting, and my life is incredibly dull right now, but I find myself wanting to put down my observations about life revolving around me. Because that's how I feel right now - that life is spinning on the outside and I can't stop watching it. But that leaves me without a role. Or at least, I haven't figured out what that role is supposed to be. I know, it's incredibly cliche - young graduate from college working a boring job with no sense of purpose or direction, questioning what she wants and who she is. It's been done before, and I know that - after all, cliches exist because they happen to too many people. But this is my version, and I'm trying to figure out how it ends.
So that's it - my life in no uncertain terms - and no one will be spared. I'm tired of being courteous and diplomatic, so I'll write what I need to write regardless of who and what you are. I'm thinking of it as therapy for the disgruntled soul.
Tag along, if you want. If not, I won't hold it against you.
